A former Ukrainian diplomat who was about to be extradited from Hungary on espionage charges intends to leave for Russia, Telex reports.
The reason for this decision, according to the former diplomat’s lawyer, is his Russian citizenship.
In his application for a residence permit submitted in November last year, the former diplomat indicated only Ukraine as his country of origin. However, according to him, this was due to the lack of the opportunity to indicate a second citizenship in the questionnaire.
According to the lawyer, although the judge recognized the former diplomat’s stay in Hungary as a threat to national security, he still overturned the decision to deport him.
The defence attorney also noted that, in the court’s opinion, the Ukrainian should have been immediately given the opportunity to voluntarily leave for Russia.
