On Sunday, July 6, a powerful explosion occurred near CHP-6 in Kyiv due to a fire in a security booth. The flames quickly engulfed the premises and spread to a nearby technical tank containing lubricants, leading to a powerful explosion.
This was reported by the head of the Desnianskyi District Administration, Maksym Bakhmatov. According to him, a short circuit occurred in the security cabin on the territory of the enterprise located behind the thermal power station.
He reported this on his Facebook page.
"On the premises of the enterprise behind the CHP, the wiring short-circuited in the guard’s cabin. During firefighting efforts, the fire spread to the lubricant tank. There was heavy smoke, and then the tank exploded," Bakhmatov reported.

According to the State Emergency Service, the fire covered an area of about 100 square meters. The fire was completely extinguished by 17:11. Despite the proximity to CHP-6, the energy facility itself was not damaged. This was confirmed by Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko. According to him, the explosion did not occur on the CHP’s territory but nearby at a commercial enterprise. There were no casualties.
"The explosion currently being reported by Telegram channels is unrelated to CHP-6. Initially, the tank with fuel and lubricants exploded in a hangar of a commercial enterprise near the CHP," Klychko emphasized.

Consequences of the explosion
As a result of the incident on the left bank of Kyiv, particularly in the Troieshchyna district, power went out temporarily on several streets. However, "Kyivteploenergo" assured there is no threat to the capital’s power supply, as the CHP-6 equipment is operating normally, and there are no consumer disconnections.
"The explosion and fire incident occurred at an enterprise outside the CHP-6 territory. No explosions or fires were recorded at the station," the company reported.
All the circumstances of the incident are being established. Law enforcement and rescue workers have completed operations at the scene.
