The Verkhovna Rada voted to increase the number of SSU personnel and expand its authority

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has passed bill №13353, which provides for a significant expansion of the staff of the Security Service of Ukraine and grants it the right to use weapons and military equipment during the execution of tasks.

According to the document, the number of SSU employees in peacetime will range from 27 to 37 thousand people, and in a special period — from 31 to 41 thousand.

The law also provides for the creation of a new unit — the Special Operations Center «A», which will replace the existing Special Operations Center for Combating Terrorism. The new unit will be able to conduct operational-combat activities, and its maximum number is set at up to 10 thousand people.

The law is aimed at increasing the effectiveness of counter-terrorism efforts and ensuring national security under martial law conditions.
