On July 23, at the meeting of the temporary investigative commission of the Verkhovna Rada on investigating corruption offenses in law enforcement agencies, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Ruslan Kravchenko, called prosecutors’ salaries unfair compared to the salaries of employees of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU).
This was reported by hromadske.
"It is unfair when prosecutors receive salaries not like everyone else — 2102 [UAH], but 1600 [UAH] (in the state budget for 2025 it is stipulated that prosecutors’ salaries are calculated based on a living wage of 1600 UAH, and employees of state bodies whose pay is regulated by special laws, as well as employees of tax and customs authorities — from 2102 UAH. — Media). Why are we worse? I, as the Prosecutor General, receive 95 thousand UAH, and a department head of the SBI — 160 [thousand UAH]. Here, as you say, I am responsible for all justice and corruption. Of course, I am responsible, but why is it so unfair?" — said Kravchenko.
According to him, prosecutors are considered "scoundrels, invalids, degenerates."
"Then write changes in the state budget: ’Prosecutors — degenerates and will receive 1600 [UAH].’ That would be honest. You will say to their faces what you have been hiding," — declared the Prosecutor General.
Kravchenko considers the salaries of employees of the SBI, NABU, and the Bureau of Economic Security to be "astronomical," while prosecutors of the district prosecutor’s office receive a salary of 35 thousand UAH, immediately being responsible for 5–10 thousand cases.
"Honestly, every second [prosecutor] thought: ’Now I’ll work for 10 years, and then I can get disability and receive a pension.’ And this is some kind of additional stimulus, insurance then, after 10 years. I believe that this is not from a good life. Most prosecutors are honest and work for their salary," — says the Prosecutor General.
