Zelenskyy signed a law on sanctions against the Russian "shadow fleet"

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, imposed sanctions against Russia’s "shadow fleet" by signing the corresponding law, which was previously supported by the Verkhovna Rada.

This was reported with reference to the Verkhovna Rada website.

It is noted that the sanctions and arrests of Russian vessels will enhance Ukraine’s security and restrict the Kremlin’s ability to support military actions by profiting from "shadow" transportation.

According to the text of the law, sanctions can be imposed on "shadow fleet" vessels, as well as on ships and aircraft transporting weapons and Russian army personnel. This will be documented by the SSU. These data will then be entered into the State Sanctions Register.

Previously, existing Ukrainian legislation allowed for sanctions on legal and physical entities but did not provide the ability to sanction vessels and aircraft.

The basis for applying sanctions is also the establishment of the fact that the vessels are used in activities that create real or potential threats to national interests, national security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
