In July 2025, the Ukrainian government attempted to limit the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine by subordinating it to the General Prosecutor’s Office. In response, NABU Director Semen Kryvonos stated that the bureau intends to enhance work efficiency and increase the number of high-profile revelations.

He discussed this in an interview with "BBC Ukraine".

"We have one Plan B — to be even more effective. If we expose more, we will be trusted more. And public support is the best defense against attempts to destroy our independence," Kryvonos stated.

The head of NABU acknowledged that he does not rule out further attempts at pressure from both the government and influential oligarchic groups, as the Bureau deals with top-level corruption investigations. According to him, attacks are already occurring in the form of paid publications in anonymous Telegram channels.

Kryvonos emphasized that the bureau does not intend to give up: "We know whom and what to expose, and we have a clear understanding of our task before society."
