US President Donald Trump will be able to organize a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian leader Vladimir Putin provided that the positions of Kyiv, Moscow, and European partners can be brought closer together.
This was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an interview with the TV channel Fox Business.
According to Rubio, the US has received clear signals for the first time "that Russia may come forward with proposals to end the war." However, he did not disclose the Kremlin’s conditions.
"We have a better understanding of the terms under which Russia would be willing to end the war. Now we need to compare this with what the Europeans would agree to and what the Ukrainians would be ready for. We need to figure out how these positions can be brought closer. If we manage to align the views so that the desires of the Russians and Ukrainians are close enough, then the President will have the opportunity to organize a meeting in which both Putin and Zelenskyy will participate," Rubio noted.
As the Secretary of State said, territorial issues could be key. At a certain stage of negotiations, a ceasefire must be achieved.
