Peace, security, and sanctions: key topics of negotiations in Washington – Merz

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders will travel to the USA. They will discuss peace efforts regarding Ukraine with President Donald Trump.

This was announced by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on X (Twitter).

Merz confirmed that tomorrow, August 18, he will travel to Washington with Zelenskyy and other European heads of state and government.

"We will exchange views with U.S. President Trump on the state of peace efforts, security guarantees, territorial issues, and further support for Ukraine," the Chancellor noted.

A spokesperson for the German government also told the media that the leaders at the White House may discuss the issue of maintaining sanctions pressure on Russia.
