In Volyn, a conflict between local residents and the TRC ended with the injury of a pensioner

A conflict erupted in the village of Novi Chervyshcha, Kamin-Kashyrskyi district, between local residents and TRC employees. Two elderly women claim that the military personnel fired at them. Meanwhile, the latter assert that the aggressive women were the first to pelt their van with stones. Currently, law enforcement officers are clarifying all the circumstances of the incident.

The incident occurred on Monday, August 18.

A local resident told journalists of the TV company «Avers» that TRC employees arrived in their village in two vehicles. They allegedly blocked the road for a man with a disability, pushed his bicycle to the roadside, and forcibly put him in their van. Then, according to the elderly woman, she and a local resident began to demand the release of the detained man and threw stones at the military vehicle.

According to the Volyn resident, after this, TRC employees drove closer and, without warning, fired several shots in their direction. As a result of the incident, one of the elderly women was injured—a bullet hit the woman’s cheek, and she has already undergone surgery.

On Tuesday, August 19, the press service of the Volyn Regional TRC and AP commented on the incident, stating that law enforcement officers are determining the fact of weapon usage. According to the military personnel, the conflict began after the local resident was detained.

«The military stopped the citizen to check his military registration data. He refused to present his documents, so he was invited into the vehicle for identification and data verification. During the verification of documents in the "Oberih" database, it was confirmed that the man has a disability and the right to deferment from conscription. He was then released», the statement says.

However, according to the TRC, local residents began behaving aggressively and pelted the service vehicle with stones while the man with a disability was still inside.

Currently, law enforcement officers and the leadership of the Volyn TRC have commenced investigations to clarify all the circumstances of the incident.
