A 75-year-old resident of the Holosiivskyi district became a victim of fraudsters, but she was lucky - thanks to the prompt actions of the police, all the funds were returned.
This is reported by Informator.
Trusting pensioners often become easy prey for fraudsters who come up with increasingly sophisticated schemes. The imagination of swindlers knows no bounds - from messages about alleged changes in the rules for calculating pensions to ordinary purchases of medicines on an unknown site, which can become a dangerous trap when personal data falls into the hands of criminals. Then phone terror begins: under the guise of "law enforcement" or "security services," fraudsters extract the last savings of the elderly, which are then very difficult to recover.
However, the 75-year-old Kyiv resident was lucky - law enforcement managed to save the pensioner from complete loss of funds. According to the Kyiv police, the woman turned to the Holosiivskyi district police with a statement that she became a victim of a fraudulent scheme. She reported that in the summer she ordered medicines online, after which she began receiving calls from unknown persons pretending to be law enforcement officers. They convinced the pensioner that the drugs she purchased were allegedly of Russian origin, which means she is now a criminal for "sponsoring the aggressor country."
The pseudo-police informed the trusting woman that a criminal case had already been opened, and she was only facing imprisonment. But if she followed all their demands, she could avoid punishment. Under constant moral pressure, the fraudsters’ victim agreed to hand over all her savings for "verification of the origin of the funds," which were soon promised to be returned to her bank account. Thus, the pensioner handed over 750,000 UAH and 4,100 USD to a courier.
Law enforcement reacted promptly: they identified the courier, confiscated the money, and returned it to the victim. The investigation continues under the article on fraud committed under martial law conditions, and all those involved in the deal are being sought. The woman herself, in her address, thanked the Holosiivskyi district police officers for their help and emphasized that she believed the fraudsters because she was very afraid of criminal liability. Kyiv police once again warned citizens not to trust phone strangers and to seek help immediately in case of suspicious calls.
