Ukraine’s richest person, Akhmetov, will build the largest energy storage facility in Poland with a capacity of 133 MW
The Ukrainian group DTEK will build the largest energy storage facility with a capacity of 133 MW in Trzebinia.
The Ukrainian energy group DTEK, owned by Rinat Akhmetov, together with the American company Fluence Energy BV, will build a 133 MW energy storage facility in Trzebinia, Poland. The project aims to strengthen Poland’s energy security and will become the largest facility of its kind in the country.
The agreement was signed just two weeks after the launch of a joint 200 MW storage facility in Ukraine. The new project will be implemented by the European company DRI, part of the DTEK group, and the American partner Fluence.
The DRI Trzebinia storage facility will be integrated into the Polish energy system in 2027 and will be used for grid balancing. The contract for this investment will be valid for 17 years. The energy will serve as a reserve during peak demand hours or when production decreases, which will help reduce costs and increase the reliability of energy supply.
According to S&P Global forecasts, energy storage capacity in Poland will grow from 25 MWh at the end of 2024 to over 20 GWh by 2030. Thus, Poland could enter the top-5 energy markets in Europe by 2030.
Moreover, the energy storage facility will be able to provide electricity even during blackouts – large-scale power outages. This is an additional advantage that enhances the energy security of the region and the entire country.🇵🇱
