Law enforcement officers have already detained six military personnel who kidnapped and tortured people in Ternopil. Another suspect is still being sought.
This was stated by the prosecutor of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the Defence Sphere of the Western Region, Andriy Bahriy, in a comment to "20 Minutes".
According to him, preventive measures are being determined for the suspects today, October 17. Five of them have already been placed under arrest without the possibility of bail. The hearing regarding the sixth suspect is still ongoing.
The lawyer requested the court to release the suspects on personal recognizance. Their commanders were ready to support this. However, the court refused, as the commanders were required to participate in the court hearing, at least via video conference.
According to "20 Minutes", one of the suspects is only 22 years old. He has been serving since the age of 18 and joined the service voluntarily. Now, the young man is suspected of extortion, robbery, and illegal deprivation of liberty or kidnapping.
Another suspect turned 23 a few months ago. He is charged with illegal deprivation of liberty of citizens and illegal seizure of a vehicle.
