A new Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy has been appointed at the National Bank.

Today, December 5, the Council of the National Bank of Ukraine approved Volodymyr Lepushynskyi as Deputy Governor of the NBU. He previously headed the Department of Monetary Policy and Economic Analysis, as reported by a media source.

Following his appointment, Lepushynskyi will be responsible within the NBU Board for the area of monetary stability, overseeing three departments: Monetary Policy and Economic Analysis, Statistics and Reporting, and International Cooperation. He will address issues related to inflation, macroeconomics in general, and interaction with the IMF.

Previously, these responsibilities were handled by the First Deputy Governor Serhiy Nikolaychuk, who was promoted to this position in August of this year after Kateryna Rozhkova’s departure (due to the expiration of her contract). Since the summer, Nikolaychuk has overseen two areas—financial and monetary stability—while the NBU Board consisted of 6 members instead of 7. Now, he has transferred part of his responsibilities (the monetary area) to Volodymyr Lepushynskyi.

Within the NBU Board, Lepushynskyi is considered to be Serhiy Nikolaychuk’s ally. They began working at the National Bank together in 2004 after graduating from university and advanced through their careers, starting from economist positions. Volodymyr Lepushynskyi has worked on issues related to the money and credit market, macroeconomics, and forecasting for over 20 years in various roles.

According to his declaration, in 2024, Volodymyr Lepushynskyi earned 4.7 million UAH at the NBU, averaging 392.5 thousand UAH per month. Additionally, the NBU contributed pension payments on his behalf to a corporate pension fund in the amount of 130.2 thousand UAH and accrued income from previous contributions totaling 287 thousand UAH (the total amount of accumulated pension funds is 2 million UAH). Lepushynskyi has savings in bank accounts amounting to $58.7 thousand, €5.1 thousand, and 671.5 thousand UAH, as well as cash holdings of $38.6 thousand and €21.7 thousand. His family owns 4 apartments and two cars, one of which was purchased during the war (a new Nissan X-Trail for 1.6 million UAH in October 2023).
