Russia’s massive attack forced Ukraine’s nuclear power plants to temporarily reduce generation
As a result of Russia’s massive attack on Ukraine’s energy facilities on December 6, nuclear power plants were forced to reduce their generation.
This was reported by the acting head of the State Energy Supervision Agency, Anatoliy Zamulko, during a telethon broadcast.
According to him, this is already the eighth massive strike by Russia on Ukraine’s energy sector since the beginning of the year. There is destruction and certain issues with energy supply to consumers.
"The enemy targeted transmission systems, our networks, and facilities that affect the redistribution of energy between regions… We were forced to slightly reduce production at nuclear power plants, but the recovery process is underway. We hope that after some time, nuclear energy will fully return," Zamulko explained.
Regarding thermal generation, he noted that there are positive developments concerning the reactivation of units. However, the assessment of damages to facilities is still ongoing, and it is premature to say how critical the impacts are.
"Today, we have tightened the schedules of hourly restrictions. For some time, with the drop in temperature, we will have to address a situation that is not very pleasant for Ukrainians, related to restriction schedules," added the acting head of the State Energy Supervision Agency.
