Six months are needed to prepare for fair elections in Ukraine, – Deputy Head of the CEC Dubovyk
Deputy Head of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine Serhiy Dubovyk stated in an interview with CNN that holding fair and free elections in Ukraine will require at least six months of preparation after key obstacles are removed, including the lifting of martial law.
This statement highlights that organizing elections, especially in the context of post-war recovery, requires significant time to address a number of critical issues.
It is necessary to develop and adopt special laws or amend the Electoral Code, as the current legislation does not provide mechanisms for "post-war elections."
Restoration of funding for the CEC and rebuilding of destroyed or damaged electoral infrastructure, particularly in de-occupied territories.
Ensuring safe voting for all citizens, including military personnel, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and refugees abroad.
Holding nationwide elections may require significant funds (preliminary estimates suggest 16-20 billion hryvnias), which are currently not included in the draft state budget.
