In Zakarpattia, the Holy Intercession Monastery of the Moscow Patriarchate is on fire

A monastery of the Moscow Patriarchate is on fire in Zakarpattia.

The buildings of the Holy Protection Men’s Monastery in the village of Kostryno are burning.

Nearby is a 300-year-old wooden Boyko church, which is a national architectural monument.

As commented by the spokesperson of the State Emergency Service in Zakarpattia region, Natalya Batyr, it is not the national architectural monument—the wooden Boyko church—that is on fire, but a building next to it where the monks lived.

"Currently, the fire covers an area of 150 square meters. The monastery building is also wooden, so the fire is spreading quickly. However, the rescuers working at the scene note that there is no threat of the fire spreading to the wooden church," said Natalya Batyr.

She added that 4 units of equipment are working at the scene, with additional equipment on the way from Uzhhorod.
