The SBI and SSU detained a prosecutor from the Chernihiv region "in the act" after receiving a $2,500 bribe
The SBI, in cooperation with the SSU, detained a prosecutor from a district prosecutor’s office in Chernihiv region "red-handed" after receiving a bribe of $2,500. For this amount, he promised to close the case and help avoid criminal liability for illegal logging.
"Today, SBI employees, in cooperation with the SSU, detained ’red-handed,’ immediately after receiving a bribe of $2,500, a prosecutor from one of the District Prosecutor’s Offices in Chernihiv region. For this amount, the prosecutor promised to close the case and help avoid criminal liability for illegal logging within one of the settlements in Chernihiv region. Currently, a notice of suspicion for committing a criminal offense under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is being prepared for him, as well as a motion for the selection of a preventive measure," the SBI statement reads.
The penalty under this article provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years with confiscation of property.
Urgent investigative actions are ongoing to identify possible accomplices of the prosecutor.
Procedural oversight is provided by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
