"Viennese Crime": new details of the murder of the son of the vice-mayor of Kharkiv and the Romanian trace

Information about the brutal murder of Danylo Kuzmin, the son of the deputy mayor of Kharkiv, committed on November 25 in Vienna, is being supplemented with new details. Two weeks after the tragedy and the arrest of suspects in Odesa, Ukrainian official sources limit themselves to brief court announcements, while unofficial sources and Austrian media have reconstructed an almost complete picture of the crime, including the motive and the amount of stolen funds.

This is reported by journalist Vitaliy Hubin.

Crypto Wallets and Timeline of Disappearance

Danylo Kuzmin, who had been living in Vienna since 2022 with his 23-year-old girlfriend, last contacted his father at 7:45 PM (Kyiv time) on November 25. After that, he stopped responding, and his girlfriend informed his parents that the young man had not returned home.

Austrian law enforcement quickly solved the crime after a burned black 2020 Mercedes with Ukrainian license plates was found under a bridge in the Donaustadt district on the night of November 25-26, with a body in the back seat.

Timeline of events reconstructed by the investigation:

  1. The criminals forced Kuzmin Jr. to provide passwords to his crypto wallets.

  2. The victim was killed.

  3. The body and the car were attempted to be burned.

Later, Austrian journalists reported that the total amount of funds extorted from the deceased’s crypto wallets was equivalent to $200,000.

Arrests in Ukraine and Seized Funds

Special services likely tracked the suspects via geolocation, as on November 28, Ukrainian law enforcement received information that the perpetrators had crossed the border and stayed overnight in a hotel in Chernivtsi on the night of November 26-27.

By the evening of November 29, suspects were detained in Odesa: Oleksandr Agoev (a former customs officer) and Bohdan Rynzhuk. Almost the entire amount of stolen funds was found on them and in places of their possible stay:

  • Approximately $90,000 — during Agoev’s arrest.

  • $1,300, 190 euros, and 12,750 UAH — in a wallet, presumably belonging to Rynzhuk.

  • Another $100,000 — in room 317 of the Atlantic Garden Resort hotel in Odesa.

Unexpected "Romanian Trace"

Among the items seized from the suspects were unofficially referred to as "ausweise," indicating a possible connection to Romania:

  • A residence permit in Romania.

  • A Romanian passport in the name of "Rynzhuk Roman," dated summer 2006. The document had "damage to the laminate and a cut-out part of page 2."

These documents may suggest attempts by the detainees to use European routes for escape or long-established connections with this country. Official information about these details is absent.
