Over 40 shelling attacks in a day: Russia attacked 16 communities in Sumy region with all types of weapons

Over the past day, Russian occupiers attacked border communities of Sumy region more than 40 times.

This was reported by the Sumy Regional Military Administration.

From the morning of January 16 to the morning of January 17, 2026, Russian forces carried out more than 40 shelling attacks on 26 settlements in 16 territorial communities of the region.

The highest number of enemy strikes was recorded in Sumy and Shostka districts.

The following communities were under shelling: Sumy, Khotin, Yunakivka, Myropillia, Mykolaivka rural and urban, Krasnopillia, Lebedyn, Hlukhiv, Esman, Shalygine, Seredyna-Buda, Znob-Novhorod, Shostka, Popivka, and Velyka Pysarivka.

According to the Regional Military Administration, the enemy used artillery, mortars, multiple rocket launch systems, FPV drones, unmanned aerial vehicles, and guided aerial bombs.

As a result of the attacks, civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed. Specifically:

• in Mykolaivka rural community, private residential buildings and passenger cars were damaged;

• in Krasnopillia community — a private residential building and a passenger car;

• in Sumy community — a residential building and civilian infrastructure facilities;

• in Lebedyn community — an administrative and non-residential building, a civilian infrastructure facility;

• in Znob-Novhorod community — a non-residential building and a passenger car;

• in Mykolaivka urban community — a civilian infrastructure facility;

• in Popivka community — a civilian infrastructure facility and private households;

• in Shostka community — private households;

• in Seredyna-Buda community, a car was destroyed, and civilian infrastructure facilities and an outbuilding were damaged.

In addition, over the past day, local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and public organizations, evacuated 32 people from border communities.

The air raid alert in the region lasted for 22 hours and 3 minutes during the day.
