The case of the missing millions of cigarette packs: former head of Odesa police Holovin released from liability

The case of the disappearance of a batch of smuggled cigarettes: court issues punishment.

This concerns over 3.7 million packs of tobacco products worth nearly 13.5 million hryvnias, which disappeared from warehouses after being seized at the Odesa Customs by law enforcement agencies.

The main figures in the case were the former head of Odesa police, Dmytro Holovin, his deputy Kostiantyn Heiko, the director of LLC «Agat 2016», and the founder of LLC «Ekspoyug».

All four suspects faced potential imprisonment from 7 to 12 years with confiscation of property. However, the charges against the police officers were changed to official negligence, and the case was closed due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.

In contrast, the entrepreneurs entered into plea agreements with the prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office. In exchange for a suspended sentence, they agreed to fully compensate for the damages caused.
