"Stalemate": Shufrych’s lawyer stated the impossibility of paying the 33 million bail due to 10-year sanctions
People’s Deputy Nestor Shufrych, who has been in pretrial detention for 2.5 years on charges of treason, is unable to pay the bail set by the appellate court.
This was reported by the deputy’s lawyer, Viktor Karpenko.
The defence attorney showed the publication a copy of a response from PrivatBank. It indicates that on January 14 and 16, partial bail payments of 20,200 UAH and 200 UAH were made for Shufrych. However, the bank refused to process the financial transactions, citing a presidential decree dated January 19, 2025. This document imposes sanctions on People’s Deputy Nestor Shufrych for a period of ten years.

Additionally, according to the deputy’s lawyer, banks are partially blocking the cards of individuals who contributed 100 UAH as bail for Shufrych.
According to Viktor Karpenko, a way out of this deadlock could be the application of a different preventive measure for the accused deputy (for example, house arrest or personal recognizance). However, such a decision must be made by the court.
It is worth noting that today the Kyiv Court of Appeal, following a complaint from Shufrych’s lawyers, is reviewing the application of the preventive measure in the form of detention with the alternative of posting bail in the amount of 33.2 million UAH. This decision was first made by the appellate court in early January of this year, after reviewing the decision of the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv.
