"An infantryman is worth his weight in gold": Syrskyi explained why technology cannot replace humans in an offensive
Technological tools, particularly drones, have significantly transformed the nature of modern warfare; however, the key element of offensive operations remains the infantry, which now holds particular value on the battlefield.
This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, in an interview with Le Monde.
The emergence of technological weapons, such as drones, has changed the psychology of warfare. But an infantryman is literally worth their weight in gold because most offensive actions are carried out on foot – Syrskyi noted.
He emphasized that, despite the extremely difficult situation at the front, the Ukrainian army continues to resist Russian forces, which he called the most powerful army in Europe. According to him, the Armed Forces of Ukraine manage to disrupt the enemy’s plans and maintain resilience even in a war that "exceeds all imaginable and unimaginable scales."
Assessing the year 2025, Syrskyi stated that the situation could have been much worse, considering the large-scale goals that Russia had set for itself. He acknowledged the existing challenges but stressed that the Ukrainian Defence Forces have managed to hold back the enemy and maintain combat capability.
