In the Chernihiv region, military deserters who were selling grenades were detained
In the Pryluky district, two servicemen born in 1986 and 1993, who were in unauthorized absence, established the sale of hand grenades in the region. They have now been detained. The men face up to 7 years of imprisonment.
This was reported by the police of the Chernihiv region.
The channel for supplying ammunition was stopped by investigators of the Chernihiv police department with the operational support of the SSU in the Chernihiv region under the procedural guidance of the Chernihiv specialized prosecutor’s office in the field of defense of the central region.
Law enforcement officers established that two accomplices born in 1986 and 1993, servicemen who were in unauthorized absence, systematically engaged in illegal trade of ammunition. They sought buyers among acquaintances, and the sale of grenades was carried out during personal meetings for foreign currency.
Police documented the fact of illegal sale of 12 hand grenades, thereby stopping the criminal scheme and preventing the uncontrolled spread of explosive items.
During the next attempt to sell ammunition, police detained the suspects under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Currently, a police investigator under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office informed the detainees of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosives, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy).
The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of three to seven years.
