Strike on Rescuers: RF attacked medics and police with ballistic missiles during aid delivery in Obolon
On the night of April 16, 2026, during a massive shelling of the Ukrainian capital, the Russian Federation employed the tactic of repeated strikes on the locations of emergency services. As a result of the attack, ambulance and police crews who arrived in the Obolonsky district on a call to help the victims were injured. The occupiers’ ballistic missile destroyed the ambulance vehicle, injuring medics and three police officers.
This was reported by the Main Department of the National Police in Kyiv and on the KCSA website.
The crews were shelled immediately after arriving at the scene of the call in Kyiv’s Obolonsky district: they had begun providing assistance to local residents when a repeated ballistic missile strike occurred.
"The emergency medical team arrived at the call to save people’s lives. At that moment, a repeated strike occurred – a targeted attack on those who were already helping the victims," said Dmitry Zagumenny, head of the KCSA apparatus.

The ambulance vehicle was seriously damaged by shrapnel; it is unlikely to be mobile in the near future.
The medical staff of the crew and the driver sustained injuries of moderate severity. The KCSA Health Department confirmed: the injured have been hospitalized in the capital’s medical facilities. The ambulance vehicle itself was completely destroyed: the windshield is shattered, windows on the side and rear doors are missing, the body is deformed, door mounts for the medical compartment and driver’s cab are damaged, the interior lining is destroyed, and the power supply system is out of order. The medical equipment also suffered technical damage.
The same strike injured a special forces police officer from Police Regiment No. 1. The Kyiv police clarified: he arrived at the missile strike site in the Obolonsky district with two colleagues to help the victims along with the medics. Within minutes, the shelling resumed — just as the emergency services were working at the scene.
"From the ballistic strike, one of the law enforcement officers sustained a shrapnel wound to the leg. His comrades applied a tourniquet to the injured officer and, since the service vehicle was damaged, the police asked for help from a passerby citizen who took the wounded law enforcer to the hospital in his own car," the police said.
The injured officer is currently in the hospital after a complex surgery. The other two special forces officers were hospitalized with concussions.
