"That would be fair": Yevhen Zhukov resigns over the shameful flight of patrol officers from a gunman in Kyiv
Police General Yevheniy Zhukov has resigned from the position of Head of the Patrol Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
The resignation decision was made after a scandal involving patrol policemen who arrived at the scene of a shooting yesterday but fled after the shots.
"As a combat officer I have decided to submit a report on dismissal from the position I hold. I think this will be fair," Zhukov announced during a press conference regarding the shooting.
Zhukov also commented on the actions of the patrol officers during the shooting. According to him, they acted "unprofessionally and unworthily."
"They got badly disoriented and left wounded civilians in danger. A very shameful incident. An internal investigation will be conducted and all managers will be held accountable for these actions. All managers who are the chiefs of these two policemen," he said.
