Demographic blow: population in Ukrainian-controlled territories has shrunk to 22–25 million people
On the territory controlled by Kyiv, Ukraine’s population is currently estimated at approximately 22-25 million people. This was reported by Minister of Social Policy Denys Ulyutin, as cited by the media.
According to him, in 1991, the country’s population was about 48 million people (note that the figure of 52 million was previously mentioned. - Ed.). At the beginning of 2022, this figure had decreased to approximately 41 million.
Ulyutin explained the further decrease in population by the war, migration, and demographic crisis.
In addition, according to his estimate, another about 3 million people remain on territories captured by Russia.
