Over 20 billion euros in cash and gold: Austria reveals the volume of bank shipments to Ukraine
Since the beginning of the war, Austria has delivered to Ukraine in cash (in dollars and euros) and gold an amount equivalent to approximately 20 billion euros, writes the newspaper Kronen Zeitung.
These details were provided by the Austrian Ministry of Finance in response to a request from the FPO party. According to the Ministry of Finance data, 1011 transports of cash euros and dollars were carried out, as well as 19 deliveries of gold bars to the state-owned "Oschadbank" of Ukraine. Since February 2022, more than a thousand separate transports have been organized.
The request was prompted by a recent incident in Hungary: an anti-terrorist special unit stopped two armored vehicles heading from Vienna to Kyiv, suspecting them of money laundering.
In Ukraine, it is emphasized that this is a standard banking practice: Ukrainian banks thus import cash foreign currency and precious metals for their own needs and the needs of clients. Kyiv accused Hungarian Prime Minister Orban of inflating the scandal for pre-election purposes.
