Stole millions from sick children: a network of fake "charitable foundations" was exposed in Zhytomyr

New charges have been brought against the foundresses and participants of the fraudulent call center who profited from the suffering of seriously ill children, – reports Natspol.

The Main Investigative Department of the National Police has exposed scammers who posed as a charitable foundation.

Call centers operated in Zhytomyr, whose operators posed as volunteers and collected money allegedly for families with seriously ill children, orphanages, or low-income families.

To gain trust, the scammers shamelessly used real stories of those in need. For example, a mother of two disabled children approached their «charitable foundation» to raise funds for rehabilitation.

Over 400,000 hryvnia was received into the family’s account, but the scammers gave the mother only 20,000, and appropriated the rest.

In total, the «philanthropists» defrauded donors of over 12,000,000 hryvnia, which they cashed out through shell companies.

They face up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
