Hungary has put forward new conditions for Ukraine to start negotiations on joining the EU

Hungarian Prime Minister Magyar stated that Ukraine will be able to begin the EU accession process only after fulfilling all 11 Budapest requirements concerning the rights of Hungarians in Transcarpathia.

Recall that the list of 11 points was submitted to the Ukrainian side by Orban’s government in the summer of 2024. In particular, it includes the following demands:

– status of national schools with instruction in Hungarian;

– the possibility of taking the ZNO/NMT in Hungarian;

– the right to higher education in Hungarian;

– guarantees for the use of Hungarian in the field of culture;

– the use of Hungarian in the public sphere;

– the use of Hungarian in local self-government bodies;

– ensuring representation of the Hungarian minority in the Verkhovna Rada;

– abolition of the mandatory requirement for knowledge of the Ukrainian language for public officials.

Kyiv continues to ignore some of these demands.
