Former pianist of the TNMK band Oleksiy "Lyopa" Saranchin has died

Ukrainian jazz pianist, composer and arranger Oleksiy “Lyopa” Saranchin, who was a member of the band “TNMK”, has died suddenly.

The sad news was reported on the official Facebook page of the Kyiv Municipal Academy of Music named after R. M. Gliere, where the musician taught. Saranchin’s life ended at the age of 54. The musician’s heart stopped on May 20. The cause of “Lyopa’s” death was a stroke. Doctors fought for the pianist’s life until the very end, but all attempts were in vain.

“Ukraine has lost one of its most talented jazz pianists — a Maestro whose fingers created magic on the keys. He was listened to breathlessly, respected for his uncompromising professionalism, and loved for his sincerity, kindness and bright soul. The bright memory of him as a great musician, a reliable friend and a noble person will forever remain with us. We express our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones and everyone who loved and respected his talent,” the statement reads.

Oleksiy “Lyopa” Saranchin

It should be noted that Oleksiy Saranchin was born and raised in Kharkiv, where he also received his professional education. “Lyopa” graduated from the Kharkiv Music College named after Borys Lyatoshynsky and the Kharkiv Conservatory in piano. From 2005 to 2011 he was a member of the band “TNMK”. The musician was also involved in the projects Kiev Big Band and Denis Adu Big Band. At the Kyiv Municipal Academy of Music named after R. M. Gliere, Saranchin taught special piano.
