Over UAH 71 million stolen from military food supplies: ESBU notifies four suspects.

The investigation found that in 2022, more than 180,000 daily field food rations were delivered to units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, some of which were unfit for consumption and prohibited for use.

Two entrepreneurs who supplied daily field food rations to the Armed Forces of Ukraine arranged this type of earnings during the war. The director of one LLC, together with his deputy, arranged deliveries of substandard dry rations worth UAH 62.5 million to the troops, while the head of another company supplied another UAH 8.6 million worth.

They managed to carry this out, in particular, thanks to the actions of the former acting director of the Department of Public Procurement and Supply of Material Resources of the Ministry of Defence. When concluding contracts with businesses, the official “forgot” to include a clause on mandatory quality checks of the goods — so the substandard products reached the military without hindrance.

The “gastronomy” was not appreciated at the front line, and mass complaints began.
Forensic commodity examinations confirmed that the food indeed did not meet quality and safety standards.

The damage to the state, represented by the Ministry of Defence, amounts to over UAH 71 million.

All participants have been notified of suspicion. The suppliers are charged with misappropriation of funds, official forgery, and placing dangerous products into circulation. The former official faces negligence in military service that caused grave consequences under martial law.

A motion has been submitted to the court to detain the company executives with an alternative bail set at the amount of the damage caused.

The investigation continues. Other possible episodes and involved persons are being checked.
