On the front, birds have started using fiber optics from drones to build nests — military

Birds living near the front line have begun using fiber optic threads from drones to build nests.

This is reported by Oleh Malchenko, a senior research fellow at the Institute of Archaeography, who is currently at the front.

According to him, the natural environment in the shelling zone has undergone significant changes due to combat operations. He notes that birds suffer from explosions, shelling, and concussions caused by incoming strikes.

In his post, Malchenko describes cases in which animals become disoriented by blast waves and fall from trees, and also mentions the deaths of individual birds from shrapnel during shelling.

At the same time, he observes that some birds are using found materials, including drone fibers, in nest construction as an adaptation to the altered environment.

The author emphasizes that such phenomena result from the large-scale impact of the war on the ecosystem and natural environment in the region.
