Jealousy in Kalush: court fines DSA official for beating city council employee

On June 10, the Kalush City-District Court fined the chief specialist of the district state administration for assaulting a city council employee, an act driven by jealousy toward her husband — a member of the executive committee.

For intentionally causing minor bodily injuries that resulted in a short-term health disorder, the woman was fined 1,700 hryvnias. In addition, she must compensate the victim for the cost of medication (1,110 UAH), moral damages (5,000 UAH), and legal fees (10,000 UAH). The parties may appeal the verdict to the Ivano-Frankivsk Court of Appeal within 30 days.

The incident occurred on January 7 at around 5:45 p.m. Upon learning of her husband’s alleged affair with a colleague, the assailant decided to confront her in the courtyard on Drahomanova Street.

During the quarrel, she struck her opponent twice in the face and nose with an open hand and a fist. To avoid witnesses, the women got into a car and drove to the bypass road (Pavlyka Street). There, the district administration official knocked the victim to the ice with two more blows and continued beating her with her hands and feet on the chest, arms, and left leg.

As a result of the beating, the city council employee suffered a concussion, bruises, abrasions on the head, and a hemorrhage in the left eye, which required hospitalization and forced her to cancel her birthday celebration.

In court, the woman fully admitted her guilt, attributing the act to jealousy, and stated her readiness to compensate for the damage; however, the victim refused compensation.

The court took into account that the defendant is raising three young children and is involved in volunteer work, but did not believe in the sincerity of her remorse: after the conflict, she did not apologize in person, and the hostility between the women continues.

The verdict enters into legal force after the expiration of the period for filing an appeal, if none is submitted.
