G7 countries will increase military aid to Ukraine and ramp up pressure on Russia, - Merz
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz assessed the results of the G7 summit, emphasizing the strengthening of support for Ukraine and the growing unity among partners. He noted that the decisions taken send a clear signal to both Kyiv and Moscow.
Merz highlighted the allies’ shift toward more active steps on security and sanctions. He made this statement immediately after the conclusion of the G7 meeting.
Following the talks, the head of the German government added that all G7 countries intend to increase military and financial assistance to Ukraine. In his assessment, this reflects better coordination among the allies and a clear long-term strategy.
The chancellor separately stressed that the message to Russia is unambiguous: pressure from the G7 will only intensify. This involves expanding sanctions and applying other economic levers.
He also noted that these decisions set a new tone for transatlantic cooperation and demonstrate the West’s shared political resolve.
“This is a real success. Our statement clearly says that G7 support for Ukraine is now stronger than ever. All partners will increase their contribution — both military and financial. And the signal to Russia is simple: pressure, including sanctions, will grow. This creates a new atmosphere of unity and determination,” he said.
