Protest against TRC in Lviv: MP Kaptyelov calls on Fedorov to resign

After a crowd in Lviv overturned a TRC vehicle, MP Roman Kaptyelov demanded the resignation of Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. The protest in Sykhiv began on the evening of July 8.

A high-profile incident unfolded in Lviv: local residents overturned a TRC service minibus, after which MP Roman Kaptyelov publicly called on Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov to resign. According to OBOZ.UA, the parliamentarian stated that the minister should take political responsibility for systemic failures in organizing mobilization.

The events took place on the evening of July 8 around 21:30 in Lviv’s Sykhiv district on Chervona Kalyna Street. TRC and SS troops, together with police, were checking documents and stopped a man to verify his military registration data.

It turned out that the 30-year-old citizen (born in 1996) had been wanted since June 12 for violating military registration rules. He was taken to the TRC and sent for a medical examination, but the notification group that remained on site faced aggression from local residents.

How the conflict in Sykhiv developed

After the man was taken away, unidentified individuals surrounded the TRC vehicle left at the scene. People climbed onto the roof, pushed the troops, and then overturned the vehicle. Footage from social media shows dozens of people standing around the minibus. According to eyewitnesses, the detention method itself was seen as excessive and sparked the outrage.

Police quickly arrived at the scene; law enforcement officers maintained public order and held talks with the citizens.

Authorities’ reaction: from Sadovyi to Kaptyelov

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said he was looking into the situation: “I am currently clarifying all the circumstances regarding the situation in Sykhiv. I will report as soon as I have full and verified information.” Lviv Regional Military Administration head Maksym Kozytskyi held an emergency meeting with security officials and demanded that all participants in the unrest be identified.

MP Roman Kaptyelov took the toughest stance, demanding Mykhailo Fedorov’s resignation. In his view, such incidents are a direct result of the Defence Ministry’s failed mobilization policy and the lack of transparent rules.

Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets also reacted to the events. He condemned the attack on the troops but noted that the case points to a deep crisis of trust in the mobilization system. Lubinets asked the Defence Ministry to set up a working group to review procedures.

“There must be one law for everyone. It does not matter who violated it — a citizen or a representative of the state. In every case there must be an objective investigation,” Lubinets said.

What is known about the investigation

Law enforcement has already opened a pre-trial investigation. Police and the SSU have joined the case, and one participant has been detained. The Lviv Regional TRC promised to conduct an internal review of its personnel’s actions.

The TRC stressed: “All events will be given a proper legal assessment. The guilty will face the liability provided by law.” The troops urged citizens not to give in to provocations and to remember that the only enemy remains the Russian Federation.
