The father of brothers Maksym and Roman Moseychuk, who were abducted in the Kyiv region at the end of June, gave his life for Ukraine at the front. In addition, one of the abducted — Maksym — is a former serviceman who defended the country in the ranks of the National Guard for more than two years.

This was told to hromadske in a comment by their brother Serhiy Moseychuk.

According to relatives, Maksym Moseychuk went to the front from the first days of the full-scale invasion and took part in the defence of Kyiv. Near Brovary, he destroyed Russian armored vehicles, knocking out two enemy tanks. He served in the National Guard for 2.5 years as a grenadier and assault trooper. He was discharged from the army under the law a year after his father was killed in the war.

The head of the family, Serhiy Moseychuk Sr., fought from the first days as part of the 28th Rifle Battalion. His life ended on July 20, 2023 — the car he was in hit mines. A petition to award Moseychuk Sr. the title of Hero of Ukraine (posthumously) is currently under consideration by the head of state and has already collected nearly 26,000 signatures.

Details of the case and the high-profile detention of servicemen

It will be recalled that on the night of June 28, seven unknown individuals broke into the Moseychuk brothers’ yard in the Kyiv region and took them away in an unknown direction. It is now known that both civilian men were killed.

On suspicion of abducting and killing people, police detained nine fighters of the 155th Mechanized Brigade, including battalion commander Oleksiy Dolholenko. The court has already imposed a preventive measure in the form of detention for 60 days for eight suspects in the case. During the court hearing, suspect battalion commander Dolholenko refused to name the person who ordered the crime. In addition, head of the NGO “Public Control Kyiv Region” Maksym Zakablukovskyi stated that information about the scheduling of these court hearings was effectively concealed from the public.

At the same time, after his subordinates were detained, the commander of the 155th Brigade, Stanislav Luchanov (who took command of the brigade in February 2026, having previously served in the separate assault battalion “Skelya”), disappeared. The Operational Command “South” officially confirmed that brigade commander Luchanov had left his military unit without authorization and is currently being sought.

At present, there is no additional official information about the masterminds or detailed motives behind the murder of the brothers. This will be reported later as data from law enforcement agencies is updated.
