Death after RTRC: SBI investigates death of 52-year-old man in Kremenchuk from severe head injuries

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigations have opened criminal proceedings into the death of a 52-year-old man who was hospitalized with severe bodily injuries after being held at the Kremenchuk District Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center.

According to preliminary information, on the evening of July 2, 2026, police officers stopped a car driven by the man. During the interaction, the driver showed signs of alcohol intoxication.

On the night of July 3, the man was taken to the Kremenchuk District TRC and SS, where he remained until July 4. Law enforcement officers are investigating the circumstances of possible bodily injuries he may have sustained during this period.

Later, the man was hospitalized in critical condition to the intensive care unit of one of the hospitals in Kremenchuk. On July 5, he underwent surgery, but on July 9 he died.

According to the medical certificate, the cause of death was a closed craniocerebral injury, fractures of the skull base bones, as well as hemorrhages under the meninges and into the brain tissue. According to preliminary conclusions, the bodily injuries could have been caused by the impact of a blunt object.

• Criminal proceedings opened under Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - abuse of power or official authority by a military official, committed under martial law conditions.
• Currently, SBI employees are establishing the full chronology of events, the circumstances of the man sustaining bodily injuries, and the persons who may be involved.
• As part of the criminal proceedings, video surveillance footage has been seized and is being analyzed, employees of the center are being questioned, documents and other materials that may be relevant to establishing the circumstances of the incident are being examined.
• The actions of all persons who had contact with the man from the moment he was stopped by police officers until his hospitalization are also being checked.
• The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
