Powerful strike on the Russian fleet in Novorossiysk: four ships, S-300 radar, and port facilities hit

In the night of August 12, the Defence Forces of Ukraine conducted a joint operation and struck the Russian naval base in Novorossiysk, Krasnodar Krai.

According to confirmed information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, four Russian military ships sustained damage of varying degrees. These include two frigates of project 11356 — «Admiral Makarov» and «Admiral Essen», a small missile ship of project 21631 «Buyan-M», and a patrol ship of project 22160 «Vasily Bykov».

The SSU clarified that the operation confirmed strikes on two Kalibr cruise missile carriers — the frigates «Admiral Essen» and «Admiral Makarov», as well as the patrol ship «Vasily Bykov».

In addition, SSU fighters struck a Russian 30N6E radar system, which is part of the S-300 surface-to-air missile system, a mobile fire group at the second pier of the Novorossiysk port, the portal of the Grushovaya oil depot tunnel at the Shesharis terminal, as well as the infrastructure of piers No. 3, No. 6, and No. 7.

The operation to strike the targets involved the Security Service of Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence, the State Border Guard Service, the Naval Forces, SSO, and other components of the Defence Forces.

Ukrainian drones, Palyanytsia jet drones, Neptune missiles, and strike systems from sea platforms were used to hit the targets.

The Novorossiysk naval base is one of the key facilities of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Following successful operations by the Defence Forces and the loss of the ability to safely base a significant part of its ships in temporarily occupied Crimea, Russia relocated part of its fleet there.
