Zelenskyy discussed with the President of Egypt the threat to food security due to Russian strikes on ships

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a conversation with President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, during which the parties discussed food security, the situation in the Black Sea region, and ways to protect food supplies amid the Russian war.

This was reported by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy thanked Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for his attention to the issues of food security and the situation in the Black Sea region. According to him, this conversation was necessary.

The President noted that Ukraine is one of the largest food suppliers to Egypt, as well as to a significant part of African and Middle Eastern countries. At the same time, due to the Russian war, Ukrainian supplies have come under serious threat.

Zelenskyy also reported that two Egyptian citizens were killed as a result of Russian strikes on cargo ships. He expressed condolences to the President of Egypt over the deaths of his citizens.

According to the Ukrainian President, a noticeable reduction in food supplies has already been recorded. This could lead to rising prices and shortages.

“Today we discussed how to counter this and protect lives. We are seeking solutions together,” Zelenskyy noted.

Separately, the presidents raised the issues of energy cooperation and bilateral relations between Ukraine and Egypt. Following the conversation, the parties agreed that their teams would work through all the issues raised during the talks.

Zelenskyy also thanked Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for his position on the need for a diplomatic resolution to the war.

“Diplomacy must work to end the war,” the President of Egypt emphasized.
