«They took away people’s hope»: Mykhailo Fedorov commented on his dismissal from the post of Minister of Defence

Former Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stated that the decision on his dismissal deprived society of a sense of perspective, and mass actions in his support are evidence of the presence of a strong civil society. Despite personnel changes, the former official emphasized the need to preserve democratic values in the country.

Mykhailo Fedorov spoke about this in an interview.

According to the former head of the defence department, the wave of protests in various cities of Ukraine was caused not only by personnel rotations, but also by a lack of understanding of the algorithms for decision-making by the authorities. He emphasized that citizens demand transparency and explanations regarding why the hope that appears in society disappears so easily.

I think that people were deprived of hope, and this is the worst thing that can be done to one’s people, — noted Mykhailo Fedorov.

At the same time, the former official emphasized that the public reaction of Ukrainians is proof of the functioning of democracy. He called not to lose the basic values and freedom for which the state is fighting during the full-scale invasion. Commenting on relations with the President of Ukraine, Fedorov refrained from disclosing details of private negotiations, noting that the common task remains to find solutions to strengthen the country and achieve victory.
