National Security Advisor to the US President Jake Sullivan admitted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost some territories in the east, in particular Avdiivka, due to a delay in approving aid to Ukraine.

Sullivan said this at a White House briefing on April 24.

"The consequences of the delay have been felt in Ukraine. Over the past six months, Ukraine has been forced to conserve ammunition, and this has led to the loss of part of the territory in the east, in particular Avdiivka."

Commenting on the approval of additional funding for US allies, particularly Ukraine, Sullivan acknowledged that the process took "too much" time.

He added that today’s $1 billion US military aid package "is a great innovation for Ukraine," but the Ukrainian Armed Forces are still under severe pressure on the battlefield.

“And it is quite possible that in the coming years Russia may gain additional tactical gains,” Sullivan said, recalling in particular attempts by Russian forces to advance at the cost of significant losses to the city of Chasiv Yar and populated areas east of Avdiivka.

“The fact is that it will take us some time to get out of the hole created by the six-month delay before Congress approves additional funding,” the White House spokesman concluded.
