President of "Energoatom" did not indicate in his declaration a house worth UAH 7 million

The president of "Energoatom" Petro Kotin did not indicate in his declaration for 2023 that he lived in a house in an elite village near Kyiv, as previously established in the investigation of "Schemes".

The journalists found that in the summer of 2023, the mother-in-law of the "Energoatom" president bought a house and land near Kyiv worth about UAH 7 million, and the official and his family settled there. However, according to the investigation, Kotin’s relative did not have sufficient official income to buy this property, as well as three other plots in a village in Kyiv region worth almost a million hryvnias. In a written commentary to Schemes, Petro Kotin confirmed that he visited the house and promised to reflect this in his declaration.

Thus, in his property declaration for 2023, filed on 29 March this year, Petro Kotin indicated that he lived in a 156 square metre apartment in Kyiv owned by his wife.

Instead, Schemes found out that in June 2023, the mother of Petro Kotin’s wife became the owner of a residential building with a land plot near Kyiv, where the official himself settled. This is a two-storey mansion with a total area of 288 square metres, which has access to a private lake, which is open only to residents of the cottage community. According to the sale and purchase agreement, the house and the land under it cost Kotin’s 70-year-old relative almost UAH 7 million in total. Of this, 6.5 million for the house and 350,000 for the land.

In response to a request from Schemes on the eve of the publication of the investigation, Kotin admitted that he does use the house. "I do visit this house and do not hide this information. I will indicate this in my declaration, which has not yet been submitted," Kotin said in December 2023.

Petro Kotin has not yet responded to journalists’ questions about why he did not indicate his residence in this house in his 2023 declaration.
