SBI is checking the defendants in the case of misappropriation of military property in Zhytomyr region

SBI officers are checking possible connections with the Russian special services of the defendants in the case of appropriation of property from one of the military units of the Zhytomyr region.

In November 2023, during an audit, Ministry of Defence employees discovered unaccounted for components for three sets of classified communications equipment. The approximate cost of the installations reached UAH 65 million.

In particular, according to the Ministry of Defence, during an inspection in two garages on the territory of a military unit, blocks with unaccounted for microcircuits containing precious metals were found: 28 kilograms of gold; 60 kilograms of silver; 590 g of platinum group metals.

The results of the audit were transferred to the SBI to study the grounds for removing the microcircuits from the balance sheet and further storage on the territory of the military unit.

During the investigation, SBI investigators discovered possible thieves of military property. In particular, it was established that officials of this military unit drew up fictitious acts for the destruction of equipment. However, in fact, only the system of secret blocks, units and packages was destroyed, the rest was appropriated by the military in order to later sell.

On May 14, 2024, SBI officers conducted 5 searches of four possible defendants in the case. Based on their results, law enforcement officers discovered and seized computer equipment and communications equipment, military property, the legality of whose origin is being established, as well as UAH 3.5 million in various currencies. In addition, St. George ribbons and 110 thousand Russian rubles in cash were found in one of them.
