Placing old barges along the Crimean Bridge is unlikely to help the occupiers protect this facility from Ukrainian attacks. The head of the press center for strategic communications of the Southern Defence Forces, Dmytro Pletenchuk, stated this during the telethon.

“In fact, it’s quite difficult to come up with something new. As for these structures, they are, first of all, designed to provide protection from surface drones. On the other hand, the latest case that happened with a road tug, which was protected by just such barriers , says that such barriers are overestimated in their effectiveness by the enemy,” Pletenchuk said.

He explained that the Russians deployed these barges in order to narrow the passage and location where they expect an attack on the Crimean bridge.

“They (the Russians - Ed.) do not have a naval component now to control this process. As they did in the summer of 2023. And yes, of course, they are trying to ensure some kind of security, in their opinion, with these structures,” - Pletenchuk noted.

In addition, according to Dmytro Pletenchuk, such structures can be erected against missile guidance systems.
