General Staff: In June, the Russian Armed Forces used chemical munitions against the Armed Forces of Ukraine 639 times

During June of this year, the radiation, chemical and biological defence (RCB) troops documented 639 cases of Russians using ammunition containing dangerous chemical compounds, mainly CS (2-Chlorobenzalmalononitrile). The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is informed about this.

During the period from February 15, 2023 to June 24, 2024, 3,201 cases of Russians using hazardous chemicals were recorded, the main means of delivery of which was dropping K-51 and RG-VO grenades from UAVs.

During this period, 1,945 cases of servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine visiting medical institutions with symptoms of chemical damage of varying severity were also recorded, of which 560 in June alone.

Formally, the General Staff explains, the CS substance is not a chemical weapon and is used by the police against violators at demonstrations, but the use of this tear gas during military operations, in accordance with paragraph 5 of Article II of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on Their destruction is unacceptable.
