ISW: Ukrainian Armed Forces recapture positions in New York and near Siversk

The Ukrainian Defence Forces have restored positions southeast of Siversk and in the New York area. Meanwhile, minor advances by Russian occupiers have been recorded at the front near Vovchansk, Chasiv Yar, Toretsk and Pokrovsk.

Eastern Ukraine. Operation #1 – Kharkiv Region

The Russian occupiers have recently made minor advances within the city of Vovchansk. Geolocation footage released on 9 August shows that the invaders have made minor advances within the centre of Vovchansk.

On 11 and 12 August, fighting continued within Vovchansk and directly east of Vovchansk near Tykhe.

The Russian "military commander" claimed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were not conducting offensive operations north of Kharkiv near Hlyboke or west of Vovchansk near Zelenne and Starytsia, but were conducting powerful drone strikes against Russian troops in these areas.

The Kharkiv Operational and Tactical Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the occupiers near Vovchansk are trying to improve their logistics and communications, which is likely to improve overall command and control in the area.

Also, the OTU "Kharkiv" said that the Russian invaders northwest of the Pacific Ocean are strengthening their current positions.

Operation No. 2 – Luhansk region

Russian occupants reportedly advanced along the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna line on 12 August.

A Russian "military commander" claimed that Russian troops allegedly pushed back the Ukrainian Armed Forces from several lanes south of Berestove, advanced south of Novoselivske, and are advancing in several directions towards the H-26 Kupyansk-Svatove road.

The Russian blogger noted that the fighting, however, remains positional.

Putin’s troops also attacked near Pishchane, Stelmakhivka, Hlushivka and Novoozynove, Makiivka, Nevske, Novosadove, Terny, near Torske and in the area of Serebryanskyi forest on 11 and 12 August.

Operation #3 – Donetsk region

The Ukrainian Armed Forces recently re-established positions southeast of Siversk. Geolocation footage released on August 10 showed Ukrainian forces advancing south of Ivano-Dariivka.

Russian occupiers continued offensive operations in the Belogorovka area, near Verkhnyokamenske, near Spirne, Ivano-Dariivka and Vyiimka on August 11 and 12.

Russian invaders have advanced north of Chasiv Yar. Geolocation footage published on August 5 shows that the occupiers have advanced southeast of Hryhorivka.

On August 11 and 12, battles continued near Chasiv Yar, Kalynivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske and Klishchiivka.

The Russian occupiers have recently advanced southeast of Toretsk, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces recently retook positions south of Toretsk on 12 August.

Geo-location footage released on 10 August shows that Russian forces have made some progress in the south-western part of Zalizne.

Additional geo-location footage published on 11 August shows that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have recently retaken positions in the western and central districts of New York.

Russian ’military officials’ claimed that Russian troops had advanced in the centre of Druzhba, in the western part of Pivnichne and near Yurivka, although ISW found no visual evidence to support these claims.

Fighting also continued on 11 and 12 August near Toretsk, Druzhba, Zalizne, in the area of New York, Nelipivka and Sukhoi Balka.

Russian invaders have recently advanced east of Pokrovsk. Geolocation footage released on 12 August shows that the occupiers have advanced within Ivanivka and southeast of Hrodivka.

The Russian Ministry of Defence and Russian "military officials" claimed on 12 August that Putin’s forces had advanced into northern Karlivka and allegedly captured Lysychne, both east of Pokrovsk.

On 12 August, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian Armed Forces brigade operating in the Pokrovsk sector said that the Ukrainian forward troops had not noticed a decrease in Russian activity in this area since the start of the operation in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation on 6 August.

The spokesperson added that the occupiers had not withdrawn any significant forces from the area, but noted that Russian troops appeared to have limited the use of drones and armoured vehicles in the area.

According to the spokesperson, the Russian invaders attack in small groups of two or three people through the forests, and this tactic makes it difficult for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to track the groups.

On 11 and 12 August, Russian troops continued offensive operations in the areas of Vozdvyzhenka, Novooleksandrivka, Kalynove, Yelizavetivka and Hrodivka, and in the areas of Skuchne, Novohrodivka, Zhelanne, Orlivka, Mykolaivka and Karlivka.

Russian occupants continued to attack near Krasnohorivka and Heorhiivka, Kostyantynivka and Vodiane on 11 and 12 August, but there were no confirmed changes on the frontline.

On 11 and 12 August, Russian troops continued shelling near the administrative border of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhya regions, including near Vuhledar.

Fighting continued on 11 and 12 August in the west of Zaporizhzhia region near Robotyne, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Verbove and Gulyaypole, but there were no confirmed changes on the frontline.

On August 11 and 12, Russian troops continued ground attacks on the left bank of the Kherson region, including near Krynky, but the front line did not change.
