No fewer than 6 mayors and heads of communities are being held captive in Russian captivity, one of them - Yevhen Matvyeyev - has died. In total, more than 1700 Ukrainian civilians are held captive by Russia, including over 400 women.

Currently, no fewer than six mayors and heads of communities are held captive in Russia. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the international human rights conference "Decade 2014-2024. Reclaiming Human Rights. Preserving Democracy".

The President noted that Yevhen Matvyeyev, the mayor of Dniprorudne, had died in Russian captivity.

"Yevhen Matvyeyev was captured back in March 2022 when he was trying to help people. Currently, no fewer than 6 mayors and heads of communities are held in Russian captivity," Zelenskyy noted.

According to him, 3,767 Ukrainians have already been returned from Russian captivity.
