Zelenskyy commented on Trump’s desire to freeze the war: "We talked about this"

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his position regarding the desire of newly elected US President Donald Trump to freeze the war.

The president stated this at the beginning of talks with the leader of the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Friedrich Merz, in Kyiv.

The head of state responded to the question of whether Ukraine agrees to freeze the war and what security conditions must be in place for our country to agree to sign any agreements to achieve peace, given that the newly elected US president reportedly wants to freeze the conflict along the current lines.

Zelenskyy noted that it is very important to have ongoing interaction with the American side and it is important to develop future steps together with the Europeans.

"When we talk about a frozen conflict, if it’s just between us, we have discussed it. I said: we want the end of the war more than anyone else in the world, and certainly, a diplomatic end to the war will save more lives, and we strive for this," he said.

At the same time, the head of state reported what he emphasized in Paris during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and Trump.

"First of all, you will see - Putin does not want to end this war. Therefore, he must be compelled to do so. Compelling him can only be done if Ukraine is strong. Ukraine is strong before any diplomacy - it’s a strong army on the battlefield, it’s packages of weapons, and so on. It’s long-range systems, certainly, and ATACMS, and Taurus, and Storm Shadow, and Scalp - we need all of this very much," Zelenskyy emphasized.

Additionally, according to him, Ukraine needs security guarantees:

"Right now, we cannot be in NATO, but an invitation to NATO can be."

Zelenskyy noted that he intends to persuade the current US President Joe Biden to agree to such an invitation.
