Law enforcement officers detained a perpetrator who attempted to damage commemorative flags on Maidan Nezalezhnosti

Employees of the capital’s police and SSU have identified the man who attempted to set fire to the flags on the improvised memorial alley for fallen Ukrainian soldiers on Independence Square. He has been detained.

This was announced by the Kyiv police.

"Law enforcement officers conducted a series of operational measures, as a result of which they detained a young man - he turned out to be a 23-year-old Kyiv resident. Investigators are currently working with him," the statement said.

Earlier it was reported that the offender, mocking the memorial, boasted of his impunity because he believed that the police were guarding the Hanukkah menorah at that time, and that no one was guarding the alley in memory of those who died for Ukraine.
