In Khmelnytskyi, a newborn baby was discovered near garbage bins
In Khmelnytskyi, a 36-year-old woman gave birth to a boy at home, wrapped him in a towel, placed him in a bag, and discarded him in the trash. Passersby found the newborn, and an ambulance took the baby to intensive care.
This was reported on January 16 by the Khmelnytskyi Regional Police. On Wednesday, January 15, around 19:50, passersby contacted the police with a report that a newborn had been discovered near the trash bins on Ternopilska Street.
The investigation operational team, criminal police, forensic laboratory of the investigative department, and juvenile police promptly arrived at the scene.

Thanks to the prompt actions of the law enforcement officers, the mother was identified.
She turned out to be a 36-year-old local resident who gave birth at home, wrapped the baby in a towel, and carried it outside in a bag.
She left the newborn at the dump.

The "ambulance" took the child to the intensive care unit of the Khmelnytskyi City Children’s Hospital.
The mother was also hospitalized.
Investigators from the Khmelnytskyi District Police Department initiated criminal proceedings under part 2 of article 135 (Leaving in Danger) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The mother faces restriction or deprivation of liberty for up to three years.
Law enforcement officials are currently establishing all the circumstances of the incident, the police reported.
